Pi Chi Omega President's Message: Desiree Straubinger, BCE, CP-FS

Dear Pi Chi Omega Members,
What a ride it’s been! As I sit down to write my final note as president of Pi Chi Omega, my heart is brimming with gratitude, inspiration, and excitement for what’s next. The last two years have been a whirlwind of growth, teamwork, and unforgettable moments—and this newsletter is proof of the incredible things we’ve achieved together.

Now, get ready for the most wonderful time of the year… PestWorld! That’s right, PestWorld is just around the corner, and we’re absolutely buzzing to bring you all the news about our Pi Chi Omega events. Mark your calendars, because PestWorld is where connections are made, ideas are sparked, and the fun never stops. From professional development to networking and laugh-out-loud memories, you won’t want to miss a minute in Orlando!  I can’t wait to spend my favorite week of the year with you!

But wait, there’s more! We’re rolling out our brand-new Entomologist on Call program, your direct line to expert advice, answers, and wisdom from the best in the business. This is your chance to ask, learn, and grow, so try it out and help us spread the word about this fantastic new resource. We are also seeking members to serve as an "On Call Entomologist". If you meet the requirements and have the time to put into this effort, please submit your name to the committee. 

I also want to remind members to take advantage of the Jr. Entomologist program, which provides PMPs and educators with fun, bug-related information to present to young learners. There are free downloadable curricula, PowerPoints, and videos available here. Present the Jr. Entomologist program to kids in your community, or share it with an educator!

And as I prepare to step out of my presidency, I just want to emphasize how much I have gained by serving on the Pi Chi Omega board. If you are a member who likes to make a difference, please consider serving in a leadership position. Either as a Board member or a committee member, I can assure you that you will get so much out of your involvement. We’re on the lookout for energetic, imaginative folks to join our Board or one of our many committees. I encourage you to nominate yourself or someone else who you feel would positively impact our organization. Got ideas? Passion? Know someone who does? Don’t be shy, reach out and help us keep this organization extraordinary.  Your unique perspectives and expertise are essential to our ongoing success.

Finally, don’t forget about our Industry Grant Program! If you know a pest management professional who is ready to take their career to the next level, encourage them to submit a grant application so we can consider supporting them in their professional growth endeavors! The deadline to submit applications is September 15th.

Serving as your president has been an honor I will always cherish. We’ve tackled challenges, toasted successes, and supported each other every step of the way. As I hand off the baton, I’m confident Pi Chi Omega’s story will keep getting brighter, because it’s in caring, capable hands like yours.

Thank you for your support, your trust, and all the incredible memories we’ve created. Here’s to the next chapter. I look forward to celebrating all we will achieve, side by side!
